What Is a Fat Bike?

A fat bike is a bicycle designed with exceptionally wide tyres — typically 3.8" to 5.0" — mounted on wide rims, run at very low tyre pressures (often 5–15 PSI). This combination creates a massive contact patch with the ground, delivering traction and float that no standard tyre can match.

Originally developed for Alaskan snow racing, fat bikes have evolved into one of the most versatile categories in cycling. Today they're ridden year-round: on snow-covered trails in winter, sandy beaches in summer, muddy forest paths in autumn, and rocky singletrack in spring.
