You’re 20km from home. The trail is perfect. And then — a flat. What happens next depends entirely on whether you have the right tools. The Schwalbe Tyre Levers are the tool that makes the difference between a 10-minute fix and a long walk home. Trusted by cyclists worldwide, these levers are designed to remove even the tightest tyres quickly and safely, without damaging your rim or tube.
Made from high-quality plastic with a carefully engineered profile, each lever features a hooked end for gripping the tyre bead and a notched end for hooking onto a spoke — freeing both hands to work the tyre off the rim. At just 40 grams for the set of three, they’re light enough to carry on every ride and essential enough that you should.
Using three levers gives you the most control and reduces the risk of pinching the inner tube or damaging the tyre bead. The technique is: insert the first lever under the bead and hook it to a spoke, insert the second lever a few centimetres away and hook it to another spoke, then use the third lever to work the remaining bead off the rim. With tight-fitting tyres (such as Schwalbe’s own Performance and Endurance Line tyres), three levers make the job significantly easier and safer than trying to manage with one or two.
Schwalbe’s tyre levers are made from a rim-safe plastic that is designed to be gentle on both aluminium and carbon rims. However, with any carbon rim, care should always be taken — use smooth, controlled movements rather than forcing the lever, and never use metal tyre levers on carbon rims. If your tyre is extremely tight, try warming the tyre slightly (e.g. in the sun) to make the rubber more pliable before attempting removal.
Yes. Schwalbe’s tyre levers can be used to break the bead on tubeless tyres and remove them from the rim for repair or replacement. Note that tubeless tyres often seat very tightly — particularly after the sealant has dried — so you may need to work carefully around the full circumference of the rim to break the bead before attempting to lever the tyre off. Always release all air pressure before attempting to remove a tubeless tyre.
Start by fully deflating the tyre. Push the tyre bead inward on the opposite side of the rim to create slack. Insert the first lever between the tyre bead and the rim edge, hook the notched end onto a spoke, and leave it in place. Insert the second lever 5–10cm away and hook it to another spoke. Use the third lever to work the remaining bead off the rim by sliding it around the circumference. Once one side of the bead is off, the tube (or the other bead for tubeless) can be removed by hand.
Yes — Schwalbe’s tyre levers are universal and compatible with all standard rim sizes including 26", 27.5" (650b), 29", 700c, and 20". They work with road, MTB, gravel, city, and e-bike tyres. The lever profile is designed to fit between the tyre bead and the rim wall on both narrow road rims and wider MTB rims.
The notch on the flat end of each lever is designed to hook over a spoke, holding the lever securely in place while you work the tyre off with the other levers. This is essential for the three-lever technique — it keeps the first and second levers anchored so the tyre bead stays lifted while you work around the rim. Without the spoke hook, the lever would slip out as soon as you let go.
Tyre levers are primarily designed for removing tyres, not for fitting them. For most tyres, the final section of bead can be pushed onto the rim by hand. If you need to use a lever to seat the last section of bead, use it very carefully to avoid pinching the inner tube — a pinched tube will cause an immediate puncture when you inflate. Many experienced cyclists prefer to use their thumbs for the final push rather than risking a pinch flat with a lever.
Yes — absolutely. A flat tyre is one of the most common mechanical issues on any ride, and tyre levers are the tool that makes fixing it quick and easy. At just 40 grams for the set of three, they take up almost no space in a saddle bag, jersey pocket, or backpack. Pair them with a spare inner tube (or tubeless plugs), a mini pump or CO₂ inflator, and a patch kit for a complete roadside repair kit.
