What width of rim tape do I need for my wheels?

The tape should cover the entire rim bed and overlap slightly onto the rim walls. For most MTB rims with an internal width of 25–30mm, 32mm tape is the correct choice. For narrower road rims (17–22mm internal width), a narrower tape (19–25mm) is more appropriate. Always check your rim’s internal width specification before ordering.

Do I need to apply two layers of rim tape?

For most applications, one layer is sufficient — including road racing at high pressures. Schwalbe’s tape is rated to 12 bar with a single layer. A second layer may help on rims with deep spoke holes or rough rim beds, but is generally not necessary.

How do I apply tubeless rim tape correctly?

Clean the rim bed with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry. Start at the valve hole, press firmly as you work around the rim, and overlap the starting point by 5–10cm. Press the tape firmly into the rim bed and walls. Pierce the tape at the valve hole with a sharp tool, install the tubeless valve, and allow the tape to bond for at least 30 minutes before inflating.
