  • FRAME SETUP.

Our mountain bike trail design uses a 4-bar style rear suspension which is very well known and has many benefits that customers are aware of from years of experience. Our platform uses an in-line top tube shock layout: this helps to minimize friction of the shock travel as has better break-away feel, more small bump sensitivity and less stress on the shock seals as the forces are inline with the shock direction. This also frees up space in the frame for larger water bottles to be stored lower onto the down tube for lower centre of gravity. We use fully sealed cartridge bearings at every pivot point, and the seat stay pivots use a double bearing setup for added durability and rear triangle stiffness.

Carbon rocker linkage: Our carbon rocker linkage is stiff and light, helping the rear triangle track straight and limit excess additional weight with its full injection molded design.

Geometry is very progressive, with a good balance of long reach and agility while not overly slack and long. The frame components are all custom molds and are designed to make the bike stiff and light. The CS and SS yoke allow 2.5" tyres to be used and the cable routing is internal.

Overall, the bikes suspension platform is similar to a 4-bar, however, we have a performance design that makes the platform perform above its price range and believe it is the new trail bike in our range that will bridge the gap between Silverback CF & Slider platforms.

    SUSPENSION SETUP.

Silverback AL uses 210 x 55mm shock. This long stroke with short travel makes the suspension damping work very accurately as there is more of the stroke to control the whole movement. This makes the suspension platform perform better throughout the travel, and keeps the shock performing consistently even during long and rough descents. The lower air pressure also helps to dial in the feel and prolong shock durability.

Silverback AL features 105mm rear travel to keep the bike responsive during hard pedaling, and together with the progressive leverage ratio, one can use a high sag (+/-35%) for extra traction and comfort over small bumps and a more relaxed geometry, but still have a good big hit capability for hard trail riding. One can also have less sag (more traditional 20-25%) to keep the bike more static, higher in travel, and this will make the bike more pedal-efficient. This provides great mid travel support for the rider wanting a more stable platform under heavy pedaling, braking and climbing. This travel together with large volume 29er tyres creates a fun and forgiving trail platform.

The shorter rear travel with large volume trail tyres helps limit geometry changes during hard riding and thereby gives the rider a more consistent handling bike through corners and to maneuver over obstacles.

    SUSPENSION KINEMATICS

The steady drop in leverage ratio helps the suspension to stay on top of the rough terrain by giving excellent mid-stroke support, the travel area most felt by the rider in technical riding. The ratio levels a little near the end, helping to get to full travel with the air spring shock.

    SUSPENSION ANTI-SQUAT

The low anti-squat helps the suspension stay active over small to medium sized bumps, giving excellent traction up hills and through corners. Combined with the mid-stroke support, the supple suspension doesn’t give way too easily, but allows the rider to pedal through rough terrain while the suspension keeps working.

    POP GEOMETRY ADAPTED FOR TRAIL

Position-Of-Power geometry designed to engage bigger muscle groups in pedaling, producing more power output for the same amount of input. Longer frames place the rider forward, in a more balanced position, improving grip on the rear on climbs and on the front for descents. A longer wheelbase and slacker head angle means more control at speed.

  • WHY IT’S BEST.

    1. Aluminium Trail frame based on the award-winning Silverback AL platform. The Silverback AL is designed around 130mm travel front & 105mm rear to provide a little extra comfort with almost no performance trade-off.
    2. High sag (+/-35%) for extra traction and comfort over small bumps and a more relaxed geometry, but still have a good big hit capability for hard trail riding. Or, Low sag (20-25%) to keep the bike more static, higher in travel, and this will make the bike more pedal-efficient. This provides great mid travel support for the rider wanting a more stable platform under heavy pedaling, braking and climbing.
    3. POP geometry means that the Silverback AL, with its unique part selection makes for the ultimate marathon and trail alloy crossover.
    4. Silverback AL is the bike every rider can get a massive kick from, easy on the climbs, nimble in the twisty stuff, it is an absolute blast on the descents.
    5. 4-bar suspension gives great small bump sensitivity, climbs efficiently - even fully open, and is big hit capable when you inevitably decide to send it.
    6. The combination of 105mm rear suspension, a 130 fork, POP geometry and a dropper post as standard is unbeatable on any bike in this price range.

    ENGINEERING NOTES.

    1X DRIVETRAIN SPECIFIC DESIGN

Front derailleurs are dead. With that comes a wider main pivot bearing stance for increased stiffness.

    ASYMMETRIC FRAME

A frames’ drive side sees different loading, compared to the non-drive side. Power transfer through the drivetrain is consistent and ramp up gradually. By contrast, the brakes exert sudden and high load during deceleration. Silverback AL asymmetric design is tailored to distribute these variable forces according to its respective magnitude and intensity.

    105mm 4-BAR SUSPENSION

Silverback AL uses a 4-bar style rear suspension which is very well known and has many benefits. Our platform uses in-line top tube shock layout: this helps to minimize friction of the shock travel as it is in line and therefore has better break-away feel, so more small bump sensitivity and less stress onto the shock seals as the forces are very inline to the shock direction.

    DROPPER POST READY

Dropper posts give the rider more options and freedom of movement and have become a standard in many disciplines of mountain biking. Silverback AL can accommodate much longer droppers with neat, pinch-free cable routing.

    METRIC SHOCK

Metric shocks perform better and have optional bearing hardware for low friction rotation, supported on the rocker side.

    INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING

All the looks of internal cable routing, but without the hassle. Cables run underneath a polyurethane sheath on the downtube, which hides the cables but can still be removed for ease of maintenance.

    CARBON FIBER ROCKER LINK

Our carbon rocker linkage is stiff and light, helping the rear triangle track straight and limit excess additional weight with its full injection moulded design.

    BOTTLE CAGE MOUNTS

Easy-access bottle mounts with plenty of space for larger capacity bottles.

    ASYMMETRIC RIMS, TYRE CLEARANCE

Asymmetrical rims offer better stress triangulation/balance between both sides, improves durability.

All Silverback AL models offer 2.5" tyre clearance for larger volume tubeless ready tyres. This delivers uncompromised tyre choices, to match the terrain demands.

  • FAQ.

    • Does this bike come with a chainstay protector?

Yes, but an additional chainstay protector can be purchased on Speedlab.shop

    • How much travel does the fork on this bike have?

      120mm travel

    • What is the weight limit on the Silverback AL?

120kg - combined weight of bike and rider (including all kit).

    • Can I put a front derailleur of Silverback AL?

No. The entire Silverback AL range is designed with wide range 1x drivetrains in mind. This allows for wider bearing stances and a stiffer frame

    • What bearings does this frame use?

      Main pivot uses 2 x 6902-2RS MAX

      Rocker pivot uses 2 x 6800-2RS MAX

      Seatstay pivot uses 2 x 6800-2RS MAX

      Chainstay pivot uses 2 x 6900-2RS MAX

    • Can I put a longer fork on this frame?

No, it will void the warranty

    • What maintenance do IGUS bushings require

Intermittent cleaning is the only maintenance IGUS bushings require. Ensure they are dry and clean of dust with a paper towel. Do not grease IGUS bushings since this will attract dust - IGUS bushings are self-lubricating and do not need to be greased.

    • Can I upgrade the length of my suspension on my bike?

The suspension length is normally determined by the frame design, it should not be changed.
