The Avinox M2S is the higher-output option: it delivers up to 130 Nm in regular assistance modes and 150 Nm in Boost, compared with 110 Nm and 125 Nm for the Avinox M2. It is also slightly lighter. However, buying the M2S does not automatically mean getting 1,500 W in every bike configuration. Battery choice is part of the specification.
This Avinox M2 vs M2S guide explains the verified differences and how to use them when choosing a complete e-bike. It is a specification-based buying guide, not a claim that we have independently tested both motors. The Silverback Diamond Trail in the banner is a Shimano-equipped illustration, not an M2 or M2S model.
Avinox M2 vs M2S: specifications side by side
| Specification | Avinox M2 | Avinox M2S |
|---|---|---|
| Rated power | 250 W | 250 W |
| Maximum torque, regular modes | 110 Nm | 130 Nm |
| Maximum torque, Boost | 125 Nm | 150 Nm |
| Published peak power | 1,100 W | Up to 1,500 W, battery-dependent |
| Drive-unit weight | Approximately 2.65 kg | Approximately 2.59 kg |
| Drive-unit dimensions | 173 × 101 × 103 mm | 173 × 101 × 103 mm |
These manufacturer figures describe the drive units, not the weight or performance of complete bicycles. Identical dimensions also do not establish interchangeability. Frame integration, electrical compatibility and the bicycle manufacturer's approval still matter.
Regular assistance versus Boost torque
M2S has a 20 Nm higher maximum in regular modes and a 25 Nm higher Boost maximum. Those are meaningful specification differences, but they are not guaranteed gains in climbing speed. A rider still needs traction, appropriate gearing and enough cadence to use the available assistance effectively.

The battery detail behind the 1,500 W headline
Avinox's FAQ specifies the M2S 1,500 W peak under its stated Boost testing conditions with an FP700 or RS800 battery. It lists a 1,300 W peak with FS600 or FS800 batteries. Therefore, two bikes advertised with M2S can have different published peak-power limits.
Ask the seller for the battery's exact model code, not just its watt-hour capacity. Capacity describes stored energy; it does not alone establish the battery's ability to support a particular peak output. A larger battery label is not sufficient proof of a higher motor limit.
Does M2S automatically have less range?
No reliable range verdict follows from peak output alone. Route, rider contribution, total load, support settings and battery capacity all matter. Compare bikes on similar terrain and keep a reserve for the return journey. Our Avinox vs. Bosch battery-range guide explains why range comparisons need context rather than a single headline distance.
Which motor should you choose?
Choose M2 when the complete bike is the better match
M2 already has substantial published torque. It belongs on your shortlist if the bike offers the fit, handling, battery arrangement and equipment you need. Do not reject a well-matched M2 bike solely because M2S exists. Compare actual complete-bike prices rather than assuming a fixed premium for either motor.
Choose M2S when extra output serves your routes
M2S is the stronger specification choice if demanding climbs and higher assistance are priorities. Confirm the battery pairing first. Then assess braking, tyres, suspension and geometry: more assistance cannot repair a poor fit or turn unsuitable equipment into a capable trail setup.

Keep the motor comparison grounded in real bicycles
Silverback's range provides useful alternatives, but do not mistake a banner photograph for a motor specification. The S-Electro Pro CF 2 and S-Electro Elite AL 1 are described as Shimano-assisted platforms. They should not be presented as M2S bikes without a verified model specification.
Want a concrete trail-oriented alternative? Explore the S-Electro Diamond Trail, listed with Shimano EP8 assistance and a 720 Wh internal battery. Compare the complete build with your intended terrain rather than treating battery capacity as a range guarantee.
For daily routes and weekend exploration, check the S-Electro 85 (10spd), listed with an EP600 motor, a 630 Wh battery and CUES 10-speed gearing. For brand-development background, read Behind the Development of Silverback Avinox Bikes; current product listings remain the reference for any purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Is M2S lighter than M2?
Avinox lists approximately 2.59 kg for M2S and 2.65 kg for M2, a difference of about 60 g. This small drive-unit difference does not establish which complete bike is lighter.
Can a firmware update turn M2 into M2S?
Do not buy M2 on that assumption. Avinox lists them as separate drive units with different specifications. Only rely on an explicitly supported update for your exact system.
Can I swap M2 for M2S because they have the same dimensions?
Matching dimensions are not a compatibility approval. Ask the bicycle manufacturer or authorised service provider to confirm the exact frame, battery, wiring and software requirements before considering a replacement.
Does every M2S bike deliver 1,500 W?
No. The published peak depends on the battery pairing and stated testing conditions. Check the exact configuration, not only the motor badge.
Buy for your riding, not just the flagship label
M2S wins this specification comparison for output and drive-unit weight. M2 can still be the better purchase when the complete bike suits your needs more closely. Browse Silverback electric bikes and compare fit, battery, equipment and service support before deciding.
